Bowan Island is one of Australia’s original artisan bakeries. Founded in 1989, they’ve received vast acclaim across the country for their sourdough loaves, crafted with an 85-year-old starter. In 2023 they set their sights on taking their products international.

	The Approach
	Our thinking behind this identity was to combine visual cues of both the past and the present. This decision was informed by Bowan’s brand pillars of innovation and heritage, which were both visually represented through a unique blend of contrasting typography and colour.

	Colour
	Bowan’s brand palette took inspiration from the ancient method of breadmaking, with each colour representing a vital&#38;nbsp;component in the baking process.

	Typography
	To best align with our ethos for the brand identity, we chose to use a pair of strongly contrasting typefaces that could work together harmoniously as headliners.&#38;nbsp;
Dinamo’s ultra-modern sans serif Favorit, alongside Mark Simonson’s elegantly nostalgic Bookmania, made for the perfect pairing to do so.

	Brandmark
	The Bowan Island brandmark pays subtle homage to the brands original logo which contained a compass. The simplified shape in the middle is representative of the compass needle.
The brandmark acts as a visual&#38;nbsp;double entendre, with the negative space forming a bread loaf that has been scored.

	Kings Domain have cemented themselves as a Melbourne institution, with six barbershop locations and an academy, they’ve become well known for their luxurious services. We worked alongside them to help establish a more refined and cohesive visual identity.

	Website Design
	Kings’ came to us in need of a website that was both as timeless and as stylish as the cuts they produce.&#38;nbsp;
The entirety of the site was created as a working prototype in Figma, which allowed us to take the team on an interactive journey from start to finish.
Our intention was to create a user interface that was not just visually striking, but also informative and intuitive for users. Check out the site here.

	Brand Refresh
	After 10 years of operating, Kings Domain found that their brand identity had become clouded and mismatched, with a clear lack of cohesion across visual collateral and in-store fit outs.&#38;nbsp;
We sought to rectify this problem, starting with a&#38;nbsp;rigorous brand audit. This helped us to identify the areas of opportunity and align on where the stakeholders wanted to take the brand.&#38;nbsp;
The results were an ultra clean, achromatic identity that repurposed the original King’s branding assets in a way that felt brand new.

	Brooklyn Donuts brought their gourmet New York style donuts to Brisbane in 2019. Since then they’ve opened 12 locations across Australia and show no signs of slowing down. We worked closely with the Brooklyn team to develop a vibrant identity and unique packaging solutions that would set them apart from competitors.

	Packaging Design
	Our objective was to create a suite of packaging that would be&#38;nbsp;immediately identifiable from afar. To achieve this we developed a distinctive brand pattern that was paired with punchy headlines. Set atop the strong Brooklyn orange, the results were something unseen in the market.&#38;nbsp;

	Marketing Material
	
	With a product as mouthwatering as Brooklyn’s donuts, we knew they should take centre stage amongst their marketing collateral. Coupled with big &#38;amp; bold headlines, our approach made for material that would grab attention and evoke hunger with ease.

	The Results
	Since completion of the project, the Brooklyn team have done an amazing job of expanding our initial vision. Their dazzling store fit-outs have garnered much deserved attention, and they continue to move towards being a top contender amongst the dessert QSR market.

	Wingboy are Sydney’s premier destination for scorching hot wings and ice cold beers. With three bustling locations across the state, they’ve harnessed a cult-like following. We worked alongside the founders to develop a brand identity that felt as eccentric as their one of a kind menu.

	The Approach
	When approaching the identity we knew it would need to be reflective of the rambunctious energy found within their locations, whilst also remaining fresh as the brand continued to expand.&#38;nbsp;
This was achieved through introducing a neon pink amongst an achromatic colour palette, which creates a party-like visual aesthetic. Combined with Florian Karsten’s ‘FK Screamer’ typeface, the results were an in-your-face identity that captures the ethos of Wingboy’s culture.

	To coincide with the launch of Rolld’s ‘Roll It Into A Meal’ deal, we embarked on a total redesign of all digital and physical menus. These were rolled out in a variety of sizes and layouts and displayed across all Roll’d locations.&#38;nbsp;

	New Store Openings
	Working in tandem with the Local Area Marketing team, we developed a visual identity that the brand could utilise exclusively for new store openings. This saw the subtle inclusion of some of the brands extended colour palette, in order to create a sense of excitement across the collateral.&#38;nbsp;

	Ideation Phase
	Initially tossing up between brand names ‘Melt’ and the chosen ‘Divide 8’, we began the ideation phase by sketching a variety of potential logoforms, as well as exploring custom typographic wordmarks. These sketches were discussed with the internal creative team, to agree on preferred ideas that would then be vectorised and refined further.

Concept 01
	The first of two initial concepts presented to the client. This conceptualisation was designed to feel premium, gourmet and evoke senses of sustainability. This was achieved through use of playful rounded edges and lightweight typography.

In contrast to the first concept, the second was designed with 


scalability in mind, aiming to attract a wider audience and sit comfortably amongst the QSR market. Through use of bold typography and linework, our intention was to create a strong sense of value without losing sight of the premium feel.

	Finalised Identity
	

Through discussions with the Divide 8 team, the final identity eventuated as a hand-drawn version of the second initial concept. This was felt to be an appropriate middle ground of what was originally presented. The logo featured custom typography and a suite of hand-drawn shapes were also crafted to ensure all touchpoints of the identity felt cohesive.
